What is adrenal gland pathology?
The adrenal glands (located above the kidneys) are small in size but responsible for producing several hormones involved in various functions.
The hormones synthesized by the cortex (outer part) of the adrenal glands are cortisol (responsible for changes in metabolism and which helps the body deal with stress), androgens (sex hormones) and aldosterone (involved in the salt regulation mechanism and, therefore, blood pressure).
The hormones synthesized by the medulla (inside) of the adrenal glands are catecholamines and metanephrines, involved in numerous functions.
