Biography of Dr Marianna Lou

Physiotherapist specialising in oncology, lymphedema, compression therapy and dermatological physiotherapy

Dr Marianna Lou is a physiotherapist with over 20 years of clinical experience, specialising in the assessment and treatment of lipoedema, lymphoedema, venous and lymphatic disorders, cancer rehabilitation and dermatological physiotherapy. It is registered with the Registered with the Portuguese Association of Physiotherapists under number OF 6291.

She holds a degree in Physiotherapy from Gama Filho University (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and specialised in Oncology Physiotherapy at the National Cancer Institute (INCA), one of the most renowned leading institutions in the field of oncology in Latin America. During this time, she was part of multidisciplinary teams specialising in the treatment of breast cancer and lymphoedema, gaining solid clinical experience and participating in scientific research projects.

She holds a Master’s degree and a PhD in Bioethics and Public Health from the Federal University of Fluminense (Brazil), where she conducted research focusing on social justice, equity and access to cancer diagnosis and treatment. This academic background has contributed to a comprehensive view of healthcare, combining clinical excellence with a strong commitment to person-centred care.

Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a particular commitment to Lymphology and compression therapy, areas in which she has gained extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of lymphoedema and lipoedema. She has received international training in Manual Lymphatic Drainage using the Vodder Method and furthered his training in areas such as plastic surgery, scar tissue, technologies and functional rehabilitation. In Portugal, he completed a postgraduate course in Dermatofunctional Physiotherapy, building on advanced skills in the management of aesthetic, functional and post-surgical changes.

She is currently part of the team at Allure Clinic in Porto, where she treats patients in the fields of lipoedema, lymphoedema, plastic surgery, vascular surgery and cancer rehabilitation, through an individualised, person-centred approach based on the best available scientific evidence.

Alongside clinical work, it is postgraduate lecturer, a trainer and speaker at national and international events, dedicated to training healthcare professionals and disseminating knowledge in the fields of lipoedema, lymphoedema, compression therapy and cancer rehabilitation.
