Frequently Asked Questions about Skin Tags

1

Is it possible to prevent the appearance of skin tags?

This is not always possible, as they can appear for genetic reasons.

As for those resulting from prolonged sun exposure, their appearance can eventually be prevented if you avoid peak solar radiation (between 11am and 3pm), use sunscreen year-round and other protection such as hats, and avoid tanning beds.

2

Can skin tags disappear without treatment?

Just as some of these lesions may change in certain aspects over time, others may also disappear, albeit slowly, or fade. However, if you notice that a mole has disappeared and had previously identified some of the warning signs described above, you should still seek help.

3

How can you be sure if a mole is malignant or benign?

Only a dermatologist can confirm this through observation. However, certainty is only possible by analyzing the tissue in question and its constituent cells. With the excisional treatment method, it is possible to perform a pathological study of the lesion to determine its benign or malignant nature.

4

Is the scar resulting from the treatment permanent?

A scar forms as a result of the excision, suturing, and subsequent removal of the stitches. Generally, its appearance tends to improve over time, although it may not disappear completely. However, post-operative care can help disguise it, including moisturizing the area and applying high-factor sunscreen (if exposed).
