What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery technique that involves removing excess skin and/or fat from the upper or lower eyelids.
This procedure eliminates puffy eyes and heavy, droopy eyelids that give the face a heavy look.
The benefits of Blepharoplasty are:
- Lift eyelids and eliminate fat bags;
- Bring back vivacity to your look;
- Remove sagging from this area;
- Eliminate the effect of age, tired and sad appearance;
- Do not act on the muscles, only on the skin around the eyes.
By correcting an external aesthetic problem, it improves internal well-being and self-esteem!
Upper Blepharoplasty
- The purpose of Upper Blepharoplasty is to clean this region and remove swelling from the upper eyelid.
- In these cases, there is excess skin and fat concentrated in the upper region of the eyelid.
- The final results cause an effect of lifting of the look.
Lower Blepharoplasty
- Lower blepharoplasty corrects aesthetic imperfections in the area immediately below the eyes.
- The procedure involves removing pockets of fat or skin found on the lower eyelid.
- The surgery is performed without traumatizing the anatomical structures of this region and without visible scars.
Before and After Cases of Blepharoplasty
The results are surprising, especially for people who have lived for a long time with a look they don't recognize.
The surgery restores vitality to the upper and lower eyelid area by restoring the skin's firmness.
In a well-executed procedure, there is no change in appearance or expression, just a clear improvement in the appearance of this area.
Upper blepharoplasty and bilateral transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty
- Anesthesia: General;
- No hospitalization;
- Duration of surgery: 2h;
- Photograph 4 months postoperatively.
Blepharoplasty Treatment
The effects of aging on the eye area begin to be felt more significantly after the age of 40. In both men and women.
Both have something to gain from this aesthetic-surgical procedure.
In some cases, young people with genetic inheritance also benefit from blepharoplasty. Improving physical appearance has a profound impact on the self-esteem of younger people.
Indications
Eyelid surgery is indicated in the following cases:
- Accumulation of fat pockets in the upper and lower eyelids;
- Excess skin and sagging in the upper eyelid;
- People without serious eye problems or conditions;
- Healthy people, without pre-existing conditions that influence the healing process or increase the risk of surgery.
These elements do not constitute absolute contraindications. Each case is unique and must be evaluated by a surgeon.
Procedure
Eyelid surgery is a minimally invasive procedure with no associated complications. This aesthetic treatment for the eye area yields surprising results, restoring a youthful appearance to the eyes.
Upper Blepharoplasty
20 minutes
Local anesthesia or sedation
Blepharoplasty leaves minimal marks, barely noticeable to the eye, which disappear after 3 months. The incision is made over a natural crease in the upper eyelid.
Lower Blepharoplasty
30 to 45 minutes
Local anesthesia, sedation or general anesthesia
The incision is made close to the eyelashes, which leaves a hidden scar. Alternatively, it is made on the inside of the eyelid, leaving no visible scars.
Postoperative
Blephoraplasty recovery is smooth and quite quick.
Bruising and swelling around the eyes are normal postoperatively. However, both gradually disappear over the first two weeks. Typically, there are no other complications associated with recovery.
Post-operative care
After surgery for droopy eyelids, there are some precautions that must be taken to ensure full recovery and the success of the intervention:
- Apply ice for the first 2 days;
- Sleep with the head of the bed elevated, or with two pillows
for 2 weeks; - Avoid physical exercise for 2 to 3 weeks;
- Wear sunglasses for the first few weeks after treatment.
After removing the stitches and to ensure proper healing, you should apply 50+ sunscreen to your face.
Also avoid prolonged sun exposure for a period of 3 months after surgery.

Blepharoplasty Patient Testimonials
My name is Maria Margarida Guedes, I'm 53 years old. I sought the services of Dr. Joana de Carvalho in early 2019 because I was very unhappy with the appearance of my legs. I discovered Dr. Joana de Carvalho through Facebook, and I can't explain why, but I immediately felt confident in her work. It was undoubtedly one of the best investments I've ever made. The doctor, as well as the nurses and everyone who works at Allure Clinic, are extremely professional. They always explained and made clear everything I needed to know throughout this process. The results are clear, and I couldn't be happier! I thank you for your kindness and dedication during these past months! I highly recommend her and hope you have immense success! You deserve it. With love, Margarida.
