What are Toxin Injections?

Toxin injections are part of a procedure approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to eliminate primary hyperhidrosis in various areas of the body, such as:

  • Armpits
  • Hands
  • Back
  • Chest
  • Forehead
  • Scalp

The only downside to this treatment is that it only temporarily reduces excessive sweating, so it needs to be repeated, on average, every 6 months.

Treatment with Toxin Injections

The treatment is performed in the office and consists of small injections into the treatment area. It is virtually painless and safe for patients, with no side effects.

After local anesthesia, the procedure is performed with an extremely fine needle through which a substance is injected that aims to block acetylcholine, which is responsible for activating the sweat glands, as it is the transmitter of nerve impulses between the cells of the nervous system (basically, it gives the “order” to sweat).

Post-treatment

After treatment, the patient can fully resume their routine, as there are no restrictions on work or leisure activities.

It is recommended that you avoid strenuous physical exertion or the use of saunas on the day of treatment.

It's normal for small bruises to appear in the injection area, which resolve easily within a few days. To speed up the healing process, ice can be applied to the area.

The results begin to be noticeable between the 3rd and 5th day after the treatment.

However, since the substance is absorbed naturally and gradually by the body, the procedure may have to be repeated after 3 to 6 months, depending on the person, to maintain the results.
