What is MiraDry?

Dr. Joana de Carvalho explains what the MiraDry treatment is.
MiraDry is a treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis, practically painless, which has already been used by more than 155,000 people worldwide.
If you want to solve the problem of excessive sweating or bromhidrosis (unpleasant and uncontrollable sweat odor), this procedure offers you immediate and permanent results in just one session, without damaging the skin, fat or muscles.
It is FDA (Food & Drug Administration) authorized, clinically tested and safe.

MiraDry Treatment
The MiraDry procedure involves the safe and controlled heating of the layer between the skin and fat – where the sweat glands are located.
While the electromagnetic energy dissolves the glands, the device has a built-in cooling system that guarantees total comfort and safety during the treatment.
After one or two sessions, an average reduction of 80% in excessive sweating is achieved, with an inherent improvement in quality of life.
Contraindications
Almost everyone – men and women – who suffer from excessive sweating can benefit from this treatment.
There are few contraindications for MiraDry, including:
- People with a pacemaker or other type of electrical implant;
- Need for home oxygen therapy;
- Allergy to local anesthetic.
In these cases, you should consider another type of treatment and seek advice from your doctor.

Procedure
2h
Performed in the office with local anesthesia
You can return to work immediately (depending on the type of work). Generally, exercise should only be resumed after two weeks.
Post-treatment
Most patients find MiraDry to be a virtually painless treatment with an easy recovery. Swelling in the treated area is common for a few days after the procedure.
Some patients report increased sensitivity in this region, with some numbness, but this is also temporary.
In rare cases, fibrosis of the axillary region (slight hardening) may occur as a result of tissue scarring, which gradually disappears.
