Frequently Asked Questions about Sclerotherapy

1

How many sclerotherapy sessions are needed to treat strokes?

The number of sessions required is directly linked to each patient's clinical situation. In some rare cases, the desired result may be achieved with just one session, while in others, three to six or more procedures may be required.

2

Is sclerotherapy a painful technique?

The needle used in the procedure is extremely thin, making it a painless treatment in most cases. Some patients report slight discomfort during the injection, but they say it's virtually unnoticeable.

3

Is it a safe procedure?

This technique is quite simple and safe and can effectively eliminate visible spider veins on the legs. However, as it is an invasive technique, it has some associated side effects, such as the appearance of small brown spots, bruising, or burning in the treated area.

4

Can leg boils reappear after treatment?

Since this is a chronic condition, it's normal for other spider veins to appear in that or another location. Therefore, maintenance (usually annually) is recommended.

5

Does sclerotherapy replace surgery?

This technique is used to treat smaller veins located closer to the skin's surface. Surgery, on the other hand, aims to treat their origin.

This means that if the patient presents a more complex clinical picture, sclerotherapy does not replace surgery, but rather complements it.

It is therefore essential to have a diagnostic consultation and carry out a Doppler Ultrasound for an assessment of the procedures to be carried out.

6
