Biography of Dr. José Carlos Vidoedo
Bachelor's degree in Medicine for the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). He holds Professional License No. 37608 from the Portuguese Medical Association.
He attended the 2 years of General Internship at Hospital S. João (Porto). He began his internship in Angiology and Vascular Surgery in 2000, at St. John's Hospital, having been the Portuguese representative in European Society of Vascular Surgeons in Training, during his training. During his internship, he completed internships at reference centers, namely:
• Vascular Laboratory of King's College Hospital (London), Doppler ultrasound area;
• Vascular Surgery Service, St. James's Hospital (Dublin), endovascular area.
In 2007, he obtained the degree of specialist in Angiology and Vascular Surgery. He was a Hospital Assistant in the Angiology and Vascular Surgery Service at Hospital de S. João from 2007 to 2008. In 2008, he started, with other colleagues, the Angiology and Vascular Surgery Service at Tâmega-Sousa Hospital Center. He obtained the degree of Consultant in the medical career (Graduate Hospital Assistant), after taking exams in 2015. He is a Fellow of the European Board of Vascular Surgery, since 2007.
From an early age he showed interest in the field of vascular diagnosis, having attended the renowned courses:
- Introduction to Vascular Ultrasound Course, Department of Ultrasound Engineering and Physics King's College Hospital, London, 2004;
- Course on Duplex Sonography of the peripheral arteries and veins, the extracranial cerebral vessels and the visceral and retroperitoneal vessels, Ultrasound Committee of the German Society for Vascular Surgery, Innsbruck, 2004;
- Osirix Online Course (1st and 2nd editions) of the Spanish Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery;
- Intravascular Ultrasound Course – Peschiera del Garda, 2018.
As responsible for the Vascular Diagnostic Center of the Portuguese Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery (SPACV), co-organized two courses on Doppler ultrasound (2010, 2011) and two courses on the Osirix program – medical image analysis software (2012, 2013). In 2018, he also co-organized a course on ultrasound evaluation of abdominal aortic aneurysms under the auspices of the Portuguese Society of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (SPCCTV).
He attended several courses in the area of arterial pathology in international institutions, such as the The Royal College of Surgeons of England (London). In the area of venous pathology attended courses dedicated to foam sclerosis, transcutaneous laser, deep venous system repair surgery and treatment of venous compression syndromes/venous stenting.
He was co-organizer of the course on percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy during the SPCCTV 4D Visions Congress (2019).
