This is a medical specialty that treats pathologies related to the endocrine system (the system of the human body responsible for hormone production).

THE endocrine system It is composed of several organs, such as: the pancreas, the thyroid, the parathyroids, the pineal gland, the thymus, the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland, the testicles, the ovaries, the adrenal glands or adipose tissue.

An endocrinologist should be consulted. whenever signs or symptoms appear that may lead to suspicion of a change in hormone production, namely:

• obesity, rapid weight gain, difficulty losing weight;
• symptoms related to diabetes (such as polyuria, excessive urination, or polydipsia, excessive thirst);
• thyroid changes;
• tiredness;
• changes in the menstrual cycle;
• decreased libido;
• erectile dysfunction;
• infertility;
• hirsutism (existence of male-pattern hair in women) and/or acne;
• pubertal delay/precocious puberty;
• andropause and menopause;
• high blood pressure at young ages;
• renal lithiasis (kidney stones) or osteopenia/osteoporosis or whenever a calcium metabolism disease is suspected.

At first consultation:

•  First, the complete harvest of the patient's clinical history, focusing on the reason for the consultation;
• Then, a complete objective examination, according to the complaints presented (evaluation by segments, evaluation by agency) and a general examination (height, weight; measurement of abdominal, chest and hip perimeter; measurement of blood pressure, pulse; cardiac and pulmonary auscultation; thyroid palpation, etc.).
• A record is made of the exams that the patient brings with him.
• Based on all these elements, requests are made complementary diagnostic tests, which can confirm or exclude diagnostic hypotheses.
• Subsequently, a fully personalized treatment plan, directed at the cause (etiology).
