Biography of Professor Doctor Sérgio Sampaio
Vascular Surgery Specialist
Bachelor's and Doctorate in Medicine for the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). He holds Professional License No. 36834 from Order of Physicians.
Professor Sérgio Sampaio's career stands out for his constant investment in learning and improving his professional skills in serving patients, particularly in the specialty of Vascular Surgery.
After finishing his degree in Medicine and completing two years of General Internship, he successfully applied for the Complementary Internship in the Angiology and Vascular Surgery Department at Hospital de São João, in Porto.
At the end of the 4th year of his internship, he sought to expand his knowledge with renowned international institutions:
- A period of Research Fellowship clinical fellowship in the Division of Vascular Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in the USA, lasting 1 year;
- He obtained the Certificate in Clinical Research awarded by the Center for Patient Oriented Research and the Clinical Research Training Program (Mayo Clinic, USA);
- He began the research project that formed the basis of his doctoral thesis.
Obtained the Degree of Vascular Surgery Specialist in 2006, having completed the Complementary Internship with a grade of 19.6.
He started teaching as a Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine from the University of Porto, a position they hold to this day.
Professor Doctor Sérgio Sampaio is Fellow of the European Board of Vascular Surgery.
He still belongs to and is an active member of numerous Scientific Societies, including:
- Portuguese Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery
- Portuguese Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery
- European Society for Vascular Surgery
- Mayo Clinic Alumni Association
Since 2009 he has coordinated the Vascular Surgery team at Hospital Privado da Boa Nova.
He also began his duties as a national delegate representing the Portuguese Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery at the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). Section and Board of Vascular Surgery.
