Biography of Dr. Joana de Carvalho
Vascular Surgery Specialist
Graduated in Medicine and Surgery, for the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). She holds Professional License No. 42735 from Order of Physicians.
He attended the 2 years of General Internship at Hospital Pedro Hispano, having completed a Postgraduate degree in Climatology and Medical Hydrology at FMUP during this period.
He began specific training in Angiology and Vascular Surgery in 2005, at the Hospital de S. João, where she combined functions as a voluntary assistant in Vascular Surgery, on the Medicine course at the University of Porto. During her training, she was the Portuguese representative in European Society of Vascular Surgeons in Training.
During this period he completed internships at reference centers:
- Vall d'Hebron Hospital (Barcelona), where he dedicated himself to the practice of vascular ultrasound;
- Park-Krankenhaus (Leipzig, Germany) for 2 months and at Klinikum Sud (Nuremberg, Germany) for one month, where he dedicated himself to the practice of minimally invasive endovascular procedures.
He attended several international courses within the scope of vascular diagnosis, surgical techniques and endovascular procedures.
Obtained the degree of specialist in Angiology and Vascular Surgery, subsequently submitting to the European certification exam, obtaining the title of Fellow of the European Board of Vascular Surgery.
He performed the functions of Scientific Consultant in the field of Vascular Surgery of the Harvard Medical School Portugal Program and Hospital Assistant at Hospital Escala, Braga, for 4 years.
Completed the course Master in Phleboesthetics, in Brazil. He was certified in the CLaCS (Cryo-Laser & Cryo-sclerotherapy) technique in São Paulo, Brazil.
During this training, he became convinced that he needed to broaden the range of therapeutic options and introduce this method in Portugal. While still in Brazil, he arranged meetings with various suppliers to acquire the equipment. Within a month, he had set up a phlebosuite modeled after the one at the Miyake Clinic in São Paulo, creating the first clinic in Portugal specializing in Aesthetic Phlebology.
Currently, he focuses his activity on private practice where he dedicates special interest to the area of Aesthetic Phlebology, applying minimally invasive techniques, without the need for hospitalization or rest and with optimized cosmetic results.
